SERVICE DURING MY LIFE

SAINT MARY'S WAY & OTHERS

Hello, my name is Nuel. During my junior high school years, I had never heard of a school program that required all ninth-grade students to serve in church or at an orphanage or elderly home. But Santa Maria does this to achieve specific goals, such as character development and strengthening our spiritual values. In this program, I was asked to serve at a nursing home, where there were elderly people missing their loved ones. Therefore, my group's mission was to comfort these elderly people and provide them with the love they had longed for. We're planning a series of events to be held at the nursing home. We'll create a rundown and present the proposal to the head of the elderly home. Once approved, the school will send funds to purchase basic necessities, which will be distributed to the elderly home.

I was very excited about visiting the home. We visited on October 11th 2025. When we arrived, the atmosphere felt very quiet yet warm. When we saw the elderly home staff, they also looked very enthusiastic. We were then taken to the hall of the elderly home. At first, we were a little shy because we had never been to a elderly home before. However, as the event progressed, we could see that the grandmothers were really enjoying the games we had prepared. They also became very open with us, sharing stories about their past. Some grandmothers dared to confide in us, and others sang us a song full of meaning. We saw a grandmother who had traveled far from Croatia to Bandung to live with her husband, who is now deceased. We also received advice from an elderly woman from Manila, Philippines. When noon came, we began to pack our things and said goodbye to the elderly women. Some of them cried, saddened and finding it difficult to let us go. We also felt sad because we had to leave these kind and loving elderly women.

After sharing my experiences in the school program, it turned out my serve didn't stop there. When I was about 12 years old, in elementary school, I joined the church choir. I really enjoyed the regular choir practice every Friday. My Catholic friends and I were very diligent in joining the choir at Kemuning Church at that time. I felt happy joining the choir because singing praises and thanksgivings was equal to two regular prayers. It was an extraordinary experience. Not only in elementary school, but I also participated in community service activities in junior high, donating funds for community service activities for two consecutive years. Also since seventh grade, I've also served on the Scout Council. There, I actively participated and truly enjoyed interacting and serving others. That was such a good experience for me, and because of that i have a lot of relations with other friends.

From my experience, I can conclude that we can serve anyone, and we can learn many valuable lessons for ourselves. Also I really enjoy every service that I take. Because from every service we learn that serving others doesn't require asking for a reward, and we should serve willingly because that is what God loves. I say thank you for all of you to visit my blogger. I hope this article makes you want to serve anyone.
